This residue creates an environment conducive to biofilm formation, which can harbor dangerous pathogens, increasing the risk of infection outbreaks among our patients.<\/p>\n\n        <p>A particularly alarming case occurred at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beckershospitalreview.com\/infection-control\/vanderbilt-warns-possible-infection-exposures-after-endoscopy-procedures.html\">Vanderbilt University Medical Center<\/a>, where an outbreak was traced back to contaminated endoscopes. Investigations revealed that retained residues, including those from simethicone, played a significant role in microbial persistence despite standard cleaning procedures. The infection risk that Simethicone poses has been known for some time, which is why all of the scope manufacturers have <a href=\"https:\/\/medical.olympusamerica.com\/sites\/default\/files\/us\/files\/pdf\/Customer-Letter---Use-of-simethicone-and-lubricants.pdf\">released statements<\/a>, relieving themselves of any liability with its use.<\/p>\n\n        <p>Given these concerns, I strongly urge management to consider the adoption of safer alternatives. From my research, there are other options that many hospital systems across the country have already adopted.<\/p>\n\n        <p>I respectfully request a formal review of our current practices regarding simethicone use in endoscopy.
